Heloisa Evangelista @lolokamakeup
Celebrity Makeup Artist NYC, LA, MI / OMA Master Makeup Artist Program Graduate

Before Master Makeup Artist Program

Self-taught artist with a big love for makeup and a strong desire to learn professional makeup techniques and become a certified makeup artist.

Heloisa loved beauty since childhood. At 15 she became a model and had to learn to do her own makeup — this is how her passion for makeup as art blossomed. Heloisa set the goal — to take courses to learn techniques and become a certified artist, so she could work in the beauty industry as her dream career.

After Completion of the Master Makeup Artist Program

  • Works at Sephora

  • Works on fashion shoots

  • Has a representing agency

  • Has celebrity clients

  • Her work is published in worldwide magazines, including major publications such as Harper’s Bazaar

After taking the course I’ve learned a lot and also I got a chance to build up amazing connections to grow my portfolio.
— Heloisa

It is believed that online courses have one big disadvantage — the lack of “in person” practice. Is it really so? Heloisa was also worried about how she could practice, but as her case showed, you can successfully practice your skills even while studying online!

“My only fear was practicing, since I was studying after work and late, but everything worked out in the end and I got my mom, sister and friends to do their makeup. For the homework I got a lot of inspiration from other pro MUA and on my days off practiced those inspirational looks on myself or friends.” — she says.

Heloisa confirms that studying online was a great experience.

“I honestly love online education because I can fit in my crazy mom/work schedule and still keep myself updated and always learning. I could build my schedule based on my days off, but honestly the classes were so good and I was so determined to learn that even after work I gave myself an hour to study daily.”

Another key point in online learning for Heloisa was the availability of one on one feedback and lifetime mentoring.

“When I was searching for online classes I considered the reviews from other students, I also researched the instructors and got to know them through their social media. It helped me to know them on an intimate level that I identified myself. I loved how each class was focused on the technique and the level of intimacy the instruction had. I felt like I was in school. I was also very pleased with the support I had every time I had questions and when I sent my homework to be reviewed. It was quick replies and very useful explanations.

Our goal at OMA is to provide one on one personal education based on each student's needs combining the best benefits from both in-person and online education, which is why at OMA, we are the only makeup school that offers individual video responses for each submission. We offer the unprecedented opportunity for personal video instruction, and this benefit is a lifetime opportunity, both as a student and graduate as you continue to work with new clients, build your business and career.

What is Heloisa's career  now after completing the course at the Online Makeup Academy? She has an agency that represents her! “After a year of building my awesome portfolio I applied to many agencies and finally got accepted. It’s great to have someone advertise my work and book celeb clients for me so I can focus on learning and connection. Besides with an agency I have my taxes paid properly and a w-2 form and insurance that’s so important for commercial/ video shoots.”

Heloisa truly treats her profession with the utmost love and care, which we feel is such a key to success - her passion and dedication to her art and clients! That is why her works have been published more than once in fashion magazines. “My Harper’s Bazaar publications are definitely the epic point of my career for me. I also have been on the front cover of a magazine 3 times in less than 3 months.” — she says.

How did she do it? Heloisa shared the highlights and experiences of her work on fashion shoots. “To work with shoots can be challenging because the cameras capture everything. The most important is definitely skin, a well corrected skin is a key for photographers always calling you back. I specialized in skin and I’ve cut the editing work for the photographers to almost zero editing done. Also it is very important to keep your work clean. Less editing is best.”

In addition to this, our talented graduate started working at Sephora during the holidays and ended up staying as a fixed employee. “I love working there because I get to help clients who want to apply makeup to feel empowered and I get to teach them a bit of skincare so they can learn to achieve that flawless natural look.” — Heloisa shares.

Makeup artistry is so inspiring, empowering and the best therapy in life.
— Heloisa

Heloisa admits, makeup is a non rules world — it’s a world open for creativity. “I honestly get the trends and do my own vision of it. Some days I’ll do a no makeup look, to a full bold color to a graphic line look.”

Heloisa’s biggest makeup inspiration is Danessa Myricks: “I wondered how she makes makeup not only to look amazing, but how to empower.” She also finds her inspiration in the Instagram accounts of other pro makeup artists and she owns many makeup books that she is constantly looking through.

Heloisa: “My ultimate goal is to be a well known makeup artist and work on editorials for big name magazines. My focus is on editorial shoots. Also one day to be able to have a moment to glam up cancer patients to make them feel empowered.”

We hope that Heloisa's story has been a real inspiration to you. Don't put off learning, start building your dream career with us by enrolling in courses at the Online Makeup Academy!

Heloisa: “When I was thinking about switching my profession to makeup artistry, I studied first. I did mentorship as well. I took in all I could from new techniques to lasting makeup fashion before fully jumping on the industry. To all makeup lovers and new students — never give up, follow your passion, dreams, study and work hard!”
